Hello Ladies, I am sad to report that we have lost a dear Auxiliary Sister.  Doris “Jean” Hoiness pasted away this morning.  Jean was the sister of our Junior Past Department President, Ellen Stogsdill.  Jean was a Past District 2 President and A Past President of Auxiliary 4809 in Norfolk.  Visitation will be at Holloman Brown Funeral Home, Monday August 25th from 7-9 p.m.  The funeral will be at Albert Horton Cemetery in Suffolk, on Tuesday August 26th at 11:00 a.m.  There will be a reception for family and friends at VFW Post 4809 following the funeral.

William Francis Carleton, worked for the US Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration as Chief, Canine Operations Branch of the National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program, Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service.

Bill passed away on July 29th after a brief battle with cancer.

Bill was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 5, 1950 to John H. and Eleanor Carleton, both deceased.

He lived in Mass. until moving to Dale City, Virginia 20 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and then worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service before going to work for TSA.

He was loved and respected the world over for his sense of fairness and his determination to never have anyone do a job that he was not willing to do first.

He was a past Commander at VFW Post 1503 and the Grand for the Department of Virginia MOC as well as being active in many other community organizations.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Ellen; his children William, Jr. and Dawn Carleton, of Mass., Shawn and Suzanne Carleton, of Mass., Annemarie and Thomas Perkins of Md. and James and Lauren Carleton, of Mass.; four grandchildren, Courtney and Ashleigh Perkins, Ryan Carleton and Victoria Carleton, as well as, brothers James, Thomas and John H., Jr., of Mass.

Friends may call at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, Va. on Sunday, August 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 12975 Purcell Road, Manassas, Va. at 10 a.m. on August 4. Interment will be held at Quantico National Cemetery at noon. Friends are invited to join the family at VFW Post 1503, 14631 Minnieville Road, Dale City immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the "VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1503" for the Cancer Aid and Research Fund, 12604 Harbor Drive, Woodbridge, VA 22192 or to the "New Dominion Choraliers", 3610 Wanda Court, Dale City, VA 22193 in memory of Bill.

     I just received a telephone call from Sister Pat Baldwin.  After a lengthy illness, Wallace Baldwin (Pat's brother-in-law) passed away this morning (Monday, July 21, 2008).  There will be a wake for him at the Shorter Funeral Home on Main Street in Farmville on Tuesday between 7 - 8:30 pm.

Glenn Grossman, Past National President of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, passed away the morning of July 14, 2008.

 

Services for Glenn include a visitation on Thursday, July 17 from 2:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. at the Donnellan Funeral Home, 10525 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL  60643.

 

Her funeral will be held Friday, July 18 at the St. Bernadette Catholic Church with the funeral procession beginning at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home and the services following at 11:00 a.m.

 

The family suggests memorials to the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Cancer Aid and Research Fund or Operation Uplink.
